How to Properly Resign From a Position

How to Properly Resign From a Position Photo: Pexels Timing is important When people think of the go-to method for resigning from a position, they often think of a two weeks notice. Meaning, the standard for resignations if submitting a resignation at least two weeks in advance your resignation is effective two weeks after submission. However, this is not always the appropriate amount of time. Be sure to check any possible employment contract or paperwork to see if there is a specified amount for notice. What you do not want to do is become a no-show or a ghost in the workplace. Dont be that person that just disappears on everyone, not bothering to even give mention of resignation. It is not fair to your coworkers, who will have to scramble to pick up the slack. It is also not fair on yourself you may be avoiding the confrontation of resignation, but you are effectively cutting yourself off from future opportunities. This doesnt mean not being able to return to the company you are quitting, but also losing out on the networking or references you may have built from your time in the position. No one will want to recommend or vouch for someone that left them in the dark, especially in the middle of an important task or project. Dont take your resignation as a time to vent If your time in a job position was less than pleasant, you do not want to necessarily let that show in your resignation, especially if its something like your resignation letter that will likely be paired with your employee record. You dont want to be remembered as the person who spent an entire page declaring your hatred for a coworker, your boss, or your job position. Do not brag about the job position or company you are moving onto, no matter how much you may want to. Try to focus on the positives of your time with the company. Instead of focusing on what you didnt get to do, or things you didnt like about the company, try to focus on the opposite. Incorporate some aspect of gratitude in your resignation letter, write about what you are thankful for: things you have learned, opportunities you were given, and so on. If you do think you need to bring attention to the reasons you are quitting, like harassment in the workplace or unsafe working conditions, go about reporting it properly. If you truly want action to happen, pursue it, just dont complain about it just because you can now that you are quitting. Go through with an exit interview, and do it properly When you submit your resignation, you may be asked to conduct an exit interview. An exit interview can be seen as something similar to a job assessment or evaluation. It is a meeting that takes place between a companys human resources department and yourself. Rather than evaluating your performance, they are looking for your input on evaluating the company and improve future company relations. The company is looking for your honest feedback during an exit interview, whether it be an online survey or in-person interview. You dont have to lie and pretend your time at the company was all sunshine and roses, because it likely wasnt Remember to be respectful even when criticizing. Your exit interview will be attached to your employee record at the company, and possibly help build your future recommendations, whether it be positive or negative. Prepare yourself Even if you have your resignation planned down to the sentence, your boss may not react the way you want them to. They may even terminate your employment immediately after you submit your resignation. Make sure to prepare yourself for immediate termination back up any files you do not want to lose on your work computer. Resigning from a job position is not easy, whether you really like your company or dont like it at all. Either way, make sure you are leaving your position as gracefully as possible, starting with a proper resignation. Dont let an improper resignation get in the way of your future opportunities, whether it be with your current company or another.

The top 12 degrees that will secure you a job - Tutor Hunt Blog

The top 12 degrees that will secure you a job The top 12 degrees that will secure you a job The top 12 degrees that will secure you a jobUniversitiesWith UK university graduates now enjoying the highest amount of debt in the world - an average of 44,000 - it is becoming increasingly prudent to pick a course that is likely to guarantee you a well-paid job. Knowledge broadens the mind, sets us free, and all the other clich s - but what we really want is for universities to be producing graduates with practical, job related skills. Living costs are on the rise, and the cost of higher education is increasing, so many students are understandably asking which university courses offer the best value for money. The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) conducted a survey in last year, covering the 2014-15 period. They determined the 12 university degrees that successfully enabled more than 80% of graduates to find a job in their chosen field within 6 months of leaving university. Here is a list of the subjects in reverse order: 12. Historical and Philosophical Studies This is perhaps a surprising inclusion into the list - how many professions can there be for which a history and philosophy degree would be seen as a major asset? Apparently many businesses view these qualifications highly, with law and accountancy firms, along with media outlets regularly taking on graduates. The HESA survey showed that 87.7% of students leaving university with this degree secured employment within 6 months. 11. Engineering and Technology This is certainly a predictable degree to have on the list - demand for STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) has always been high. The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has said the UK economy is due for a science and technology boom, and that this sector will account for 25% of all new jobs by 2016/17. A solid 87.8% of Engineering and Technology graduates secured further education or a job or within six months of leaving university. 10. Creative Arts and Design Degrees in the arts are often disparaged, and seen as qualifications for those not up to the rigorous academic demands of the more `serious` subjects. The fact that 87.9% of these graduates went on to find work or further study in this field is testament to the vitality and economic importance of this sector. 9. Languages With the rise of globalisation, businesses can have the whole world as their marketplace. The multiplicity of languages can be an obvious impediment to this, and so fluency in different tongues will certainly be seen as an asset. Spanish and Mandarin are among the most demanded languages, and 88% of language students found work within 6 months of graduating. 8. Business and Administrative Studies Someone with a sound knowledge of how a business works will be an asset to any company. 88.3% of graduates with this degree found work within six months of leaving university, a figure up from 85% back in 2013. 7. Biological Sciences Many specialists predict that we are on the cusp of a biotech revolution, a boom which will be spoken of with the same importance as the industrial revolution by future historians. ; Better drugs and antibiotics, stem cell applications, improved organ transplantation - these are among the things that graduates in this field will be working on. An astonishing 89.2% of of students with a biological sciences degree found work in their chosen area within 6 months of leaving university. 6. Law A degree in law has always been a very desirable accolade, perhaps because it virtually guarantees you a well-paid and interesting career. In this litigious age there is huge demand for graduates with a law degree, which is why 89.9% of those in the HESA survey went onto find work or extra study within 6 months of completing their course. 5. Architecture, Building and Planning With London`s skyline reaching for the sky, and the the rocketing housing prices making designer flats appear all over the capital, architects and planners are in huge demand. Its not just the London that needs them though - proved by 90.1% of these graduates finding jobs or seeking further study throughout the country. 4. Education We keep hearing about how the mounting bureaucracy and and endless lesson plans are putting people off becoming teachers - this could be why 94.4% of those with degrees relating to education found work or further study within six months of graduating. 3. Any subjects affiliated with medicine This is such a broad category simply because demand is so high. If you have a degree in any medical subject, from neurology, reflexology, parasitology, or microbiology, you are almost guaranteed a job upon leaving university. 95.3% of students with one of these qualifications found work in their chosen discipline, or went on to further specialist studies within six months. 2. Veterinary science Becoming a vet is a childhood dream for many, but few actually complete the four years of veterinary medicine - perhaps most augment their aspirations, and choose instead to study human anatomy. There is a huge demand for graduates in this field, which is why 95.9% of them will find work or further study within six months. 1. Medicine & dentistry Most people would probably have expected these subjects to be placed in the top position. We are all living longer, and as such will require more healthcare for longer periods of time; and our appetite for all things sweet means that dentists will always be in demand. An astonishing 96.6% of students with a degree in Medicine or dentistry either walked into a job, or found further studies in their field within six months of graduating. 2 years ago0Add a Comment

Can We Please Stick With True Journalism

Can We Please Stick With True Journalism Photo credit- Google Images Given all of the recent misreporting and media frenzy, it might be time to make sure those of dedicated to writing remember what true journalism looks like. Breaking a story in today’s fast-paced digital world is important, but accuracy still weighs in a little heavier. Break the story, but don’t report information until it is proven accurate through fact-checking. A journalist can break a story with minimal details and update the public after credible sources can confirm additional information. In times of uncertainty and frenzy, misinformation only adds to the chaos. It’s important to remember these aspects of true journalism for the sake of public sanity (and your job): Get accurate info- If you do nothing else, at least get the facts  rather than  some clip of information that might sound true. Reach out to multiple solid sources. Relying on only a few questionable sources in an effort to break a story diminishes a journalist’s credibility. Be patient- a true journalist understands the importance of waiting a little longer to let the story unfold. The big picture is oftentimes more revealing than the short story at the forefront. Remain objective- emotional situations can lead to improper reporting. Objectivity is a journalist’s greatest asset when the facts need to be laid out for the public. Report the happenings, not the emotion behind them. Stay open-minded- Remember keep your eyes and ears open. Many times, the best story is an accident. Focus on the story at hand, but be willing to travel a little off course if necessary.  Journalists have a code of ethics to follow and a standard to strive for. Reporting to the public is one of the most difficult jobs a person can undertake. Just one reporting mishap can make an entire organization look bad. Breaking headline news is only beneficial when the facts are checked, well written, and relevant.

Organic Chemistry - Crystal Field Theory

Organic Chemistry - Crystal Field TheoryCrystal Field Theory is one of the most popular and the most complicated science lessons that are offered in high school. This is the kind of lesson that a young student needs to pass to be successful in the AP Chemistry Exam. In this lesson, students learn about the nature of chemical compounds and what they are made of.At the heart of Crystal Field Theory is the concept of what chemical compounds are made of. The students will be taught to learn how to distinguish different elements from each other. They will also learn about elements that are found in the Earth's crust. With all this information in hand, they will be able to learn how to make their own compounds.Crystal Field Theory also teaches students about the basics of atomic and molecular structures. They will learn how the atoms are placed in a lattice and how they are linked together. They will also learn the function of the protons, neutrons, and electrons in the atoms. Learning abo ut these concepts is very important for students to be able to create compounds of their own.At the core of Crystal Field Theory is the concept of phase transformations. As students learn the chemistry, they will be able to identify what molecules are present in their respective phases. The combinations of certain elements will have the potential to change their phase into other phases. At the end of the lesson, they will be able to know which elements they will need to explore further in their own chemistry classes. There are many variations on Crystal Field Theory. Some of the variations are based on elemental phases. For example, in the mineral form of sulfur, the element exists as sulfate and carbonate. Students can choose which aspect of the lecture they will teach their students in their science classes.Crystal Field Theory is so much more than just a way to improve the students' basic understanding of chemistry. This lesson is used in many other classrooms throughout the world . In fact, this lesson is so well known that most teachers today add it to their syllabus when teaching AP Chemistry. Most teachers believe that the content covered in this lesson makes it easy for the students to understand and retain their learning. The benefits of Crystal Field Theory are far reaching. Students will learn how to think about chemical bonds and they will learn how to create their own compounds of chemical compounds.

The Best Places in Africa for Landscape Photography.

The Best Places in Africa for Landscape Photography. Africa’s Greatest Landscapes â€" for Landscape Photographers. ChaptersWhat is Landscape Photography? What You’ll Need to Take Excellent Landscape Photographs. Some Top Spots in Africa for Taking Landscape Pictures. In the ‘West’, we suffer from a little problem of imagination. One particular image dominates our visions of places and, even when confronted by the reality, this image doesn’t budge an inch. So, when we think of China, we don’t think much beyond the Great Wall. An inspiring landscape, sure, but a bit like imagining the UK as only Hadrian’s Wall. When we think of Latin America, we stop at Machu Picchu. And when we think of, say, Russia, we think mainly of vodka and snow.Maybe this is natural. Yet, it remains a little ridiculous. And there’s nothing more ridiculous than the way we imagine Africa. We’re willing to bet that ‘Africa’, for most people, signifies one thing. That’s the savanna â€" a beautiful landscape â€" with its acacia trees, its giraffes and elephants, wildebeest and vultures. But that’s pretty much i t.However, it’s worth remembering in all this, that Africa is, in fact, a continent. A continent three times the size of Europe. And if we think that Europe is a geographically diverse place, we should probably recognise that of our southern neighbours. And it shouldn’t be a surprise â€" although it may well be â€" that Africa has some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth. From the famous coastlines of South Africa and Mozambique to the deserts of Morocco and Chad, from the mountains of Uganda to the canyons of Namibia â€" Africa has it all. And yes, there’s always the Serengeti at sunset to be taking photos of too.But let’s open our eyes â€" and camera lens â€" to the beauty and diversity of the African continent. And let’s learn a little about its geography whilst we search for the best locations for landscape photography.Check out the best spots for landscape photography in the rest of the world. Because whilst we might consider this to be one of the most self-explanatory types of photography â€" you just take pictures of landscapes â€" it isn’ t, really. What is a Landscape? And the difficulty of all this starts with the definition of landscape â€" a term that has come to mean mountain peaks and remote locations, areas of the world that remain untouched, or at least undirtied, by any man-made element.Landscape, to us, is this â€" it is usually a natural landscape, and we want it to be an amazing landscape. We want it to take our breath away with its relief or beauty, and we want to feel as though we are the only people there. And this is the thing with landscape as an idea. It is detached and frozen in time â€" available to be looked at but not engaged with. This is what we like doing with images of Africa in particular. ‘Oh, a giraffe!’, we say, looking at a picture of the Serengeti. We appreciate the beauty of the giraffe in the landscape, but forget about Africa as a continent with people in it.It’s a danger of landscape photography that this happens. But this is an unfortunate historical development â€" rather than the way that this needs to be.See the best places for landscape photographers in Asia.Changing the Picture of Landscape.Landscape, as a word, has actually engaged with the integration of a human element with nature from the very beginning. Land and scape are the two roots of this English term â€" and both pay heed to this mixture.Land is not just a place â€" but originally it meant where someone belongs, as France is the land of the French. Scape, meanwhile, means to shape â€" to transform, work on, and sculpt the land.Thought of like this, landscape no longer refers to this nice distant a-human space. Rather, it pays heed to the messiness of landscape â€" and suggests that landscape can be all sorts of different environments.Just as an image of Kilimanjaro inspires so many landscape photos, so should a cityscape or seascape. Street photography, with its depiction of urban landscape, is also a landscape photography â€" as much as nature photography, wildlife photography, and travel photography. The streets of Cape Town or Nairobi are as much a landscape image as the deserts of Morocco â€" and it is important to remember this for your own art.Find Europe's best places for photographing landscapes. Drive in one of the most beautiful landscapes on EarthWhat You’ll Need to Take Excellent Landscape Photographs. But if landscape images can be of anything from streets to mountain valleys, what makes a good landscape photograph? This, in some way, is in the photographic eye of the beholder. However, it is also a question of photography techniques and photography skills. How come one person can take great photos of the Nile, say, but my landscape shot is just average? For great pictures â€" truly beautiful images â€" point and shoot is not enough. And as you work on your own craft, you’ll need to learn a few things. We’re talking shutter speed, depth of field, and white balance. You’ll need to figure out if you want a long exposure or a wide angle lens. And you’ll need to work on your photography composition, get familiar with your camera gear, and practice scouting and waiting in the right places.Good photography really is all about the patience to find the best image you can g et.Go to South America and take landscape photographs! Some Top Spots in Africa for Taking Landscape Pictures. But ultimately, the best way to learn how to shoot is to get out into the world and do it.And to get you inspired, here are some of the best places in Africa to find inspiring and awesome landscapes to photograph. We can’t cover them all â€" because it’s a continent after all. Yet, you’ll find some tips here to get you started. Just remember though, the world has plenty of shots of the savanna.Say something interesting â€" and make something beautiful and new.Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda. The Rwenzori Range in Uganda is one of the largest mountain ranges on the continent. And to remind you that Africa isn’t all heat and dryness, in the Rwenzori there are plenty of glaciers.Alongside this, it is a gorgeous â€" and largely unvisited â€" landscape. And it will give you some of the most beautiful landscape photos you have.Serengeti, Tanzania.Ah, here it is. The famous Serenge ti.  This is where you’ll find your acacia trees and wildebeest. It goes without saying that this is one of the most distinctive and wonderful places on Earth â€" as you’ll know from all of your photos of Africa.Check out the Olduvai Gorge whilst your there â€" both a beautiful place and perhaps where humanity was born.Sahara and the Ergs.Where do you go to get some of the most gorgeous pictures of the Sahara? Given that this desert is the size of China, there are plenty of options.A decent place to start would be the Ergs of southern Morocco. Whilst these aren’t technically in the Sahara, they are massive hills of sand that comes from the desert nearby.Namibia’s Fish River Canyon.Imagine that red, rocky landscape of Arizona or Utah. And then remember that you are in Namibia. The Fish River here has cut a massive trench through the Earth. And whilst the gorge itself is mesmerising, the landscape around is really quite special too.Atlas Mountains. In the Maghreb, through Morocco , Algeria, and Tunisia, you’ll find a range of mountains stretching for two and a half thousand miles â€" and dividing the coastal areas of north Africa from the Sahara. Here you’ll find snow, lush green valleys, and unique wildlife. It’s a great place to come if you’re looking for a part of the old often overlooked.South Africa’s Garden Route. At the southern tip of Africa, you’ll find, funnily enough, South Africa. And on its south-western tip, you’ll find the Garden Route, a stretch of coast known for its verdant greenness. Here, the Tsitsikamma Mountains fall down into the sea, making for a breath-taking landscape. Treat your camera to something beautiful.Simien Mountains, Ethiopia. In amongst the greenness of Ethiopia, you’ll find the towering Simien Mountains. With rugged and ambling peaks alongside jagged spikes of rock, this range makes for wonderful views. For the wildlife hunters among you, there are also the gelada â€" a species of monkey unique to this area.Co astal Mozambique. It’s currently recovering from one of the worst cyclones it experienced in decades. Yet, this tragedy has shone a light on the beauty of Mozambique. With its lagoons, dispersed islands, and gorgeous beaches, it is a unique and paradisiacal place. Try, for example, Bazaruto Island. The beaches of Mozambique are famously gorgeous.Chad.Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world, landlocked, as it is, in the middle of the Sahara.Yet, whilst it is devastatingly poor, it is also an exceptionally beautiful place. Travel from the Tibesti Mountains in the north to the Manda National Park in the south, and you’ll see some of the most amazing landscapes you’ll ever see.See the USA's beautiful landscapes.

4 Fun Italian Vocabulary Games for Kids

4 Fun Italian Vocabulary Games for Kids Brooke Neuman Is your child having trouble memorizing Italian vocabulary? Below, Italian tutor Nadia B. shares four fun games that will help your child learn vocabulary while still having fun One of the keys to helping children learn Italianor any language for that matteris to keep it fun and encourage use of the language. The following Italian vocabulary games accomplish both goals. In between Italian lessons, play these fun games with your child. You never know, you might pick up a few Italian vocabulary words yourself! 1. Charades Chances are youre already familiar with the word guessing game, charades. Charades is a fun way to stimulate a childs imagination, and the best part is you can customize the game for whatever your child needs to work on. If he or she needs to work on memorizing verbs, for example, you can write different verbssuch as ridere  (to laugh),  scrivere  (to write),  pensare  (to think)on index cards, then ask your child to act out the verb. You can make it as simple or as complex as you like. The only rule is that all discussions must be done inyes, you guessed it, Italian! 2. Who Am I? Write out a list of individuals on small strips of paper; for example, linsegnante (teacher), la studentessa (student), il fratello (brother), lavvocato ( lawyer), etc.  If the child has a good understanding of Italian culture, you can try listing well-known Italian figures such as il Papa, Jovanotti, Dante, etc. Next, choose a strip of paper and tape it to the childs back so he or she cant see it. Then, have the child take turns asking questions in Italian about who she or he is. You can give the child suggestions for questions to ask; for example,  Sono maschio o femmina? (Are they male or female?), Quanti anni ho? (How old am I?), and Sono ancora vivo/a? ( Am I still alive?) As the questions become more complex, the more the child will practice his or her Italian vocabulary. If the child doesnt know a particular word,  encourage him or her to look it up or simple ask how to say it.  The game is concluded when the child has discovered his or her identity. 3.  I Spy First, gather a set of index cards. On half the cards, create a mark with a colored marker or crayon. On the remaining cards, write out the name of an object in the room. Keep the two sets of cards separate. Next, ask the child to choose a card from each pile. After choosing a colored card and object card, the child will have to identify the specific colored object in the room and form the sentence, I spy a ______.  If the child chooses the object door and the color white, for example, he or she will form the sentence,  Vedo una porta bianca. (I see a white door.) 4. Like/Dislike Gather a set of index cards and some dice. On half of the cards write the phrase, Mi piace/piacciono ___ (I like ___). On the other half, write the phrase, Non mi piace/piacciono ___ (I dont like ____).  Then, place all of the index cards in a bag. Next, ask the child  to pick a card from the bag and roll the die. Whatever number he or she rolls is the number of items or actions he or she must list. For example, if the number three is rolled, the child must list three things he or she likes or dislikes depending on which card he or she picked. Using these Italian vocabulary games will make practice fun and exciting! Encourage your child to come up with exciting alterations to the games, as there are many variations in how they can be played. Nadia B. teaches Italian in New York, NY.
